September 2012: Dr Shyam Reddy, GCC Distinguished Cancer Scholar,
Professor and Co-Director of Cancer Biology Program, Dept of OB/GYN,
Morehouse School of Medicine was honored with the prestigious
"International Goldstar Award" by H.E. Korn Dabbaransi, former Deputy
Prime Minister, Thailand for Individual Excellence in the performance
and contribution for National and International progress in the field
of Science and Medicine. IIFS (India International Friendship Society)
organized this meeting in Bangkok, Thailand (June, 2012) to express
their appreciation for the existing Indo-Thai Friendship and to take it
still further by creating awareness.
Dr Reddy was also honored
with multiple awards during a conference on “Economic growth and
National Unity” by the Friendship Forum of India (FFI). The award was
presented by Dr.G.V.G.Krishnamurthy, Former Election
Commissioner, Govt of India in New Delhi in June, 2012 in recognition
of Dr Reddy’s exceptional caliber and outstanding performance in cancer
research.
Dr Reddy won the prestigious Best Personalities
of India Award and Gold Medal, which, in the past was awarded to
prominent personalities like Matinee idol Dev Anand, Late Sunil Dutt,
Cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, and Mohd. Azharuddin, SC Jamir, Chief
Minister of Nagaland, Brington Lyngdoh , Chief Minister of Meghalaya,
Leading Educationist Shyam Chona, Architects Pheroz Kudianwala, Manik
Dastor. Dr Shyam Reddy was also awarded the prestigious
“Super Achievers Of India Award” and the “Bharat Excellence Award” for
the year 2012 These awards are given to selected few most
extraordinary men & women from the field of science, technology,
education, industry, fine arts, sports, politics, and social work etc.,
who have done something special for this country and/or their
countrymen and have attained greater excellence in the field of their
work or who have a touch of genius, or who have scaled the heights
against odds to achieve excellence – people who have made a mark in
their particular activity by any standard world-wide, or those whose
work is an inspiration to others. The panelists who select the awardees
are some most prominent citizens from India. In
a press note released to this newspaper, Dr. Reddy thanked his
collaborator, Dr. Veena N. Rao, Professor and Co-Director of the Cancer
Biology Program, Department of OB/GYN, at Morehouse School of Medicine,
as well as all the post-docs and students who worked passionately and
diligently to help achieve great strides in cancer research. He also
acknowledged GRA/GCC, NIH and DOD organizations for providing support
to achieve his goals in cancer research.
