Boisakhi marks the start of new solar calendar year for Bengalis. Like every year, the Atlanta Bengali Forum (ABF) successfully celebrated their Boisakhi festival on May 2nd 2009 at Meadowcreek High School.
The event drew not only the Bengalis within Atlanta together but this time attracted a diverse cross culture crowd – making this a true union, an opportunity to share and present the rich Bengali cultural heritage.
The cultural program was marked by recitations of poems, songs, and dances of Rabindranath Tagore and Kaji Najrul Islam, two great Bengali poets. Kids programs showcasing poems from Sukumar Rai, Rabindra sangeet drew huge appreciation from the audience.
The cultural event also showcased solo and group dance and song performances. The highlight of the evening was of course the drama “Dampati” written by famous Bengali play writer Manoj Mitra. ABF members’ performance drew rave reviews from the viewers.
The evening ended with a sumptuous dinner – obviously the dinner conversation was the night’s cultural program. “A program of this stature is not possible without the support from every member of ABF and of course the active participation and presence of the audience,” stated a press release issued by ABF.
ABF’s upcoming events include a cricket match, and an annual picnic at Galts Ferry. Please visit www.atlantabengaliforum.org to learn more about ABF and participate in their upcoming events
