Spritual leader Amma Sri Karunamayi was at the Global Mall recently as part of her five-day schedule in Atlanta. The program at the mall included a spiritual discourse, darshan and Saraswati mantra diksha for children and the youth.
Amma, who began the discourse with a two minute meditation for world peace followed by the chanting of the ‘Sri mrityunjaya mantra’ said, in order to have peace at home, in the community and in the world, having peace in the heart is necessary.
She talked about the importance of spirituality, in finding this peace. “There is great power in bhakti,” she added.
Parts of a documentary on Amma’s considerable work in setting up treatment plants in Andhra Pradesh was screened. The plants filter water that is contaminated with high levels of fluoride. The water has caused a crippling condition called fluorosis amongst several villagers there.
The visual presentation also depicted Amma’s work in setting up two tribal schools with 650 students that is now considered a model school in the district. The documentary then progressed to show her at her leprosy colony, which currently has 275 patients, and her housing projects to rehabilitate abused women and girls.
Prominent community members including Global Mall’s Shiv Aggarwal, HTA President Jayashree Mohapatra and others took turns releasing Amma’s CDs. A series of 24 ashtothram pooja CDs were released during the evening.
