The “I do” Only Comes Once: Be Creative On Your Wedding Day!

New western trends in wedding attire have transmigrated to the east, affording the Indian bride-to-be a whole new array of options on her fairytale day, says Christine.

Every girl, at some point or another in her life, has dreamt about that day when she ties the knot with that special someone. When that celebrated day comes, the bride is the center of attention (and rightfully so!). From the moment the groom sets his eyes on her for the first time in her wedding attire, the bride is the quintessential princess of the gala – and nothing compliments her beauty more than that “perfect” bridal outfit.

Because the bride is the focal point of that momentous day, the importance of the wedding dress cannot be understated. In fact, finding that perfect ensemble is perhaps the most rewarding (and, at times, frustrating) pre-matrimonial exercise for the bride to be; after all, the bride – and her attire - will be the most photographed, treasured and memorialized things at the wedding. The exercise requires coherence with the wedding theme, competence in understanding what fabrics/colors/style best compliment the bride’s figure/appearance, and, conceivably the most difficult prerequisite: immense foresight as the bride’s appearance/figure, and thus her measurements, are subject to change over time. Shopping for that perfect dress usually starts many months before the wedding, and, in light of the significance of the event, the bride-to-be should be willing to consider all options.

In other words, an Indian bride no longer has to wear traditional garb, however lavish and extravagant, on that special day. Yes, that means a bride to be does not have to confine her search for her perfect dress to the higher end (and conventional) sari mills. That’s not to say that saris cannot beautifully compliment a woman on her wedding day; they can and will, of course, be the attire of choice for certain, if not most, Indian women. Nevertheless, the new western trends in wedding attire have transmigrated to the east, affording the Indian bride-to-be a whole new array of options on her fairytale day. In fact, if you take a look at the accompanying pictures, you’ll see that the modern wedding attire trends utilize a healthy amalgamation of the traditional with the unconventional – thereby achieving a perfect balance of conservatism and originality/distinction.

In the end, the quest for the perfect dress lies in the hands of the bride herself; after all of her shopping, fittings, and fashion expert consultations, only the bride-to-be can know what’s best suited for her. However, it’s comforting to know that women now have a multitude of dress options for that momentous day – if you can dream it, it can be made a reality. Just remember – be glamorous, be exotic, be creative because you only get married once!
