  The 2005 Spring Preview

A sneak peak at what’s going to be hot next spring.

Well, it’s that time of year again. Although we are all busy doing last minute Christmas shopping and the weather outside is still a bit frightful, we designers are one step ahead of the game and have already begun displaying our Spring 2005 collections on runways, in stores, and in magazines. If you’re not careful, it will be March before you know it and your closet, full of those fur jackets and heavy fabric attire will leave you ill-prepared for what looks to be a lively Spring season.

Recent collections that have been prominently displayed in Milan have had one common undercurrent – this upcoming Spring, there’s not one particular style that is in vogue. Rather, when the weather warms up and the birds start singing again, there are a number of trends you’ll inevitably see decking the halls of boutiques everywhere. And I’m here to give my readers a special, up-close sneak peak at what’s hot before it gets hot.

First, you’re going to be seeing a lot of solid colors, and you can bet you’ll see some of the same bright, vivid pastel colors that were in vogue last Spring (I know you’ve all seen those beautiful, satin emerald green evening gowns already in the magazines). In addition, this Spring is sure to showcase pieces that effectively merge solid colors in bold combinations and patterns.

With regard to fabrics, sheer and velour pieces are heading your way this upcoming Spring season. Take one look and you’ll see why they’re going to be hot ticket items. When the weather gets warmer, its fun to play with sheer and velour because of their versatility and form-fitting attributes; so yes, its time to start that pre-Spring workout regimen to work off those unwanted winter pounds (oh Ok, you can wait till after Christmas). Additionally, you will see what I like to call a ‘Denim revival’ – it never goes out of style, but jeans and denim-inspired accessories are sure to adorn many, come March and April. You’re also going to see pieces with a layered effect, and dresses with simple, but exotic cuts that will be sure to turn heads. Remember -this Spring it’s not just about what you’re wearing, but how you wear it.
