Raksha Idol ‘08 Contest on Sept 20

For the tenth year, Raksha will hold its famous fundraiser at the Gwinnett Center on Saturday, September 20, 2008. This year's exciting show will be the third annual Idol contest, which will feature a song competition in two categories, adult and junior.

Over 120 contestants auditioned through Spice Radio, mail-in and karaoke auditions. Raksha has selected 10 adult finalists and 5 junior finalists for the show on September 20th. Participants will be judged by musical and theater professionals from the local South Asian community. Raksha, Inc. provides South Asians in Georgia, with the resources to face challenges such as domestic violence, family violence, discrimination, harassment, and sexual assault. Raksha's mission is to promote a stronger, healthier South Asian community through confidential support services, education, and advocacy. Guided by values of consensus in decision-making, diversity in leadership, and the dignity and worth of every individual, Raksha strives to empower and serve the South Asian community.

“Through the community's support, we have been able to directly impact the lives of numerous members caught in domestic violence or sexual assault situations. We have witnessed the program's success and have watched individuals create new and healthy lives for themselves and their families. It is incredible to see the 'Power of Change' when we all come together for a cause of a stronger and healthier community,” said Raksha Director, Aparna Bhattacharyya
