“Swarnim Gujarat” Celebrations on September 11 & 12

Gujarati Samaj of Atlanta is gearing up to celebrate the Golden Jubilee (‘Swarnim Gujarat’) Celebrations commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the formation of Gujarat State for the Asian American community residing in the State of Georgia. The celebrations will be held on Saturday, September 11 and Sunday September 12, 2010 at “Sardar Patel Bhavan”, home of Gujarati Samaj in Tucker, Georgia.

Among all the states in Union of India the State of Gujarat has emerged as a model state in many ways. The progress and achievements of State of Gujarat is envious to even some developed nations! Today’s Gujarat is tomorrow’s India!, said a press release issued here.

The excitement and preparations are underway, it added. The Gujarati Samaj of Atlanta had invited all the leading Indian organizations of Atlanta and sought their support in this undertaking. This event, therefore, is spearheaded by Gujarati Samaj of Atlanta, but belongs to all the Asian-American community.

Founded in 1981 with 10 to 15 families, Gujarati Samaj Inc. today has close to 1000 paid family members and mortgage-free 40,000 sq. f. building in Tucker, Georgia and serving the local community for the past 30 years.

The Gujarati Samaj of Atlanta along with their regular cultural programs, for the first time has undertaken a new and challenging program “Swarnim Gujarat” celebration under the leadership of current president Mr. Vipul Patel and program coordinator long time dedicate volunteer – currently BOG Mr. Ramesh Pandya. During this celebration Gujarati Samaj will also celebrate a dedication of the bust of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel the Iron man after ten years of purchasing the “Sardar Patel Bhuvan” building.

The exhibition on rich cultural heritage of State of Gujarat includes scientists, literary figures, saints, researchers, businessmen and patriots with special focus on Gandhiji and Sardar Patel.

Dr. Sudhir Parikh, well-known philanthropist has agreed to honor the event. The current NFIA president Mr. C. K. Patel of California has agreed grace this event. Dr. Dhaduk, known neurologist and Chairman of Saurastra Cultural Samaj of USA has agreed to attend. Mr. H. R. Shah of TV Asia has agreed to attend this event. Also our team is working closely with Government of Gujarat and hopefully their delegation would attend the event.

Interestingly, Swarn Kalash arrived on August 15, 2010 and was welcomed by leaders of Gujarati Samaj at “Sardar Patel Bhavan”.

The saints of Bochasanvasi Akshar Purushottam Sanstha (BAPS) will perform appropriate puja of Swarnim Kalash, and bless the congregation on September 11, 2010.

There will be commemorative souvenir with informative articles on State of Gujarat and Gujarati Samaj, Atlanta for people to cherish for a long long time.

The Gujarati Samaj of Atlanta is whole-heartedly inviting all the non-resident Indians to participate in this historic event and expects three to five thousand visitors during this event.
