Love, passion,
freedom, dignity and the power of the Divine are the
qualities found in Ruby, “The King of Gems”. Sardius is the
ancient name for Ruby. Ruby in Latin is Ruber which means
red. The presence of the element chromium gives ruby its red
color.
Ruby is the birthstone for the month of July. The gem is the
mineral corundum. The color of ruby ranges from pure red to
slightly purplish red. Except in red the other colors are
considered as sapphires. The gemstone minerals are found in
Thailand, India, Burma, Zimbabwe, Srilanka, and Madagascar.
Ruby has an importance in science. The first lasers were
made from artificial Ruby crystals.
We have now pretty good information about Ruby. Now let us
think about our project of the month. Ruby being the
birthstone of July, and rest of the colors other than red
being considered as sapphires, and remembering July 4th as
being a patriotic day- you know the hints I am giving- well
how about designing a red, white and blue necklace?
Here are the supplies needed for the project.
1. 13 6mm red color beads
2. 13 6mm blue color beads
3. 13 6mm white color beads
4. 3 4mm silver stars
5. 1 pair of silver ear wires
6. 3 2” silver head pins
7. 20 2mm silver round beads
8. 2 silver jump rings
9. 1 silver lobster clasp
10. Few silver crimp beads
11. 2 meter silk griffin cord
Tools:
Crimping pliers
Tweezers
Round nose pliers
I will leave the project to you either you can simply string
the beads in to a necklace or you can do a knotted necklace
with a pair of matching earrings.
Happy beading!
